Citizens’ Observatories Toolbox

The main goal of the Citizens’ Observatories Toolbox (COT) developed in the CITI-SENSE project is to provide various tools with guidance for the future usage bycitizens, scientists and interest groups, as well as commercial interest. 

The CITI-SENSE COT includes any resources and guidance, procedures, software, hardware or services developed by CITI-SENSE that can be used to support citizens to participate in environmental monitoring and enable citizens to contribute to community based environmental decision making.

The CITI-SENSE Citizens Observatories Toolbox addresses the following components:

• Server side management of Sensors data and other types of Surveys data

• User applicability, using Mobile Apps and Web Portals

• Widgets and code-snippets  

• Methods for generate data, access/download data and view/visualise data

• Data

In CITI-SENSE, we view COT as two perspectives on the same thing, i.e., as the head and the tail of a coin, the users’ perspective and the developers’ perspective.

The tools in CITI-SENSE Citizens’ Observatories Toolbox can be used individually or used in combination with each other. For individual usage, click each Toolkit in the figure or each subpage of the Toolkit within this page, and find more information on how to use it. For combined usage, you can find more information under page ‘Use Examples‘.

 

The tools in CITI-SENSE Citizens’ Observatories Toolbox can be used by different stakeholders and end users, e.g., general citizens who is interested in air quality related environmental issues, environmental NGOs, authorities, industries, students, teachers, parents, school boards, etc., for different purpose, for example, research, urban planning, environmental sensing, education, and citizen science related activities, etc.
